St. George’s Society of Baltimore Membership Categories
We offer two classes of membership:
- General Member
Elected members who pay annual dues as determined by the Board of Directors. - Life Member
Elected members who make a one-time life subscription payment. Life Members are exempt from further dues.
Eligibility
A person shall not be admitted as a member of the Society unless that person is a native or descendant of a native of the United Kingdom or the colonies and dependent territories of Great Britain.
Membership Process
Membership is selective and conducted with care to ensure the continuity of our values and fellowship:
- Attend a Society Event
Applicants must attend at least one Society function. - Secure Two Sponsors
Two current members, a proposer and a secondary sponsor, must each submit written letters of recommendation to the Membership Secretary on your behalf. To help expedite the process, proposers must ensure that their letters include your contact information (address, email, and cell phone number). This prevents delays and allows the Membership Secretary to send application materials promptly. - Membership Committee Review
The Membership committee reviews these letters and votes on whether to extend an invitation for you to formally apply. - Circulation to the Board
Your name is then circulated to the Board of Directors for comment. If no objections are raised, the Membership Secretary invites you to complete the official application. - Application Review and Board Vote
You submit a completed application, verified and signed by both sponsors, confirming eligibility. The Board of Directors votes on the application at the next meeting. - Approval & Dues
Upon election, you are notified of election to the Society and asked to submit your one-time entrance fee and dues set by the Board. Upon payment, you are officially welcomed into the Society. - Installation
Newly elected members shall be presented with the Society emblem, necktie, certificate of membership, a copy of the Society’s history, and the bylaws and directory at the next Annual Dinner they attend.
